Exploring the Toboggan Runs in the Stubai Valley

 

Conveniently, sleds and toboggans are available for rent directly at the lower terminus. Numerous toboggan runs light up under floodlights several times a week, at full moon the winter sports areas beckon to go moonshine tobogganing. All season long, the toboggan runs in Stubaital are in excellent condition and the options sheer endless.

Avid tobogganists can even spend their entire winter holidays thrashing through the snow. Hiking uphill for two or three hours, then dashing down into the valley and off to the next toboggan run. Yet just as important as enjoying the downhill ride is often also the hike uphill, this is where the climb becomes a shared experience.

No matter if on foot, by lift or lodge transfer by tractor or all-terrain vehicle – in Stubaital there are many ways to get to the rustic lodges in the snowy forests. Those who prefer a more direct approach to slipping and sliding, can let off steam during the day or in the evening under floodlights on the numerous natural and artificial ice-skating rinks.

Toboggan Run Elfer-Neustift

The 8 km long toboggan run from Elfer to Neustift promises pure sledding fun and breathtaking views. From the starting point, just a few steps from the mountain station, you can enjoy a stunning panorama stretching all the way down to Innsbruck, which is why Elfer is often called the “Balcony of the Stubai Valley.” You can take the gondola up to the mountain station and either head straight towards the valley station of the Elfer lifts or make a stop at the Panorama Restaurant beforehand.

Toboggan Run Mieders

The toboggan run in Mieders is perfect for daytime adventures and, starting in late December, for magical night tobogganing on Tuesdays (with the lift running from 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM). From the mountain station, it’s just a 15-minute walk to the cozy Ochsenhütte. The 6 km run then takes you on an exciting ride down 640 meters of altitude back to the valley station of the Serlesbahnen. Don’t have your own sled? No problem – you can easily rent one right at the Serlesbahnen.

Toboggan Run Brandstattalm

The Brandstattalm toboggan run in the Stubai Valley is open from December to April, depending on snow conditions, and can be reached with a hike of about 1.5 hours. The Brandstattalm is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except during holidays. Night tobogganing is available upon request, and sled rentals are offered directly at the Alm. The 3.5 km long toboggan run starts and ends at the Josef car park.
